735 Davis, a BRIDGE Housing development, offers 53 units of affordable senior housing consisting of studios and one-bedroom apartments. A portion of the apartments are supported by a Local Operating Support Program (LOSP) subsidy for formerly homeless individuals.
Located a block from the Embarcadero, in San Francisco’s North East Waterfront Historic District, the architectural design draws from elements inherent in the surrounding historic buildings: frame and infill, bearing wall construction, and combines them with modern details, including a steel and glass façade which fit in to the fabric of the community while maintaining a distinct presence among the mix of adjacent historic and modern structures.
We approached the identity with an eye to the future, while incorporating relevant historical style. The identity creates a quadrant which communicates features of the location in a modern and positive way, narrating the story of the property. The overall rectangular shape reflects the building’s architectural proportions and is nod to frame and infill and bearing wall construction found in this area.
In addition to the identity, Argus developed signage and wayfinding for the building, including interpretive signs which educate residents and visitors about the area’s rich history.
