Challenge  

Developing mixed-use housing that integrates affordable and specialized units into urban areas presents a complex set of challenges: fostering community acceptance, meeting resident needs, and creating a distinct identity that reflects both the developer’s’s vision and the surrounding area. For Meridian, a Related California property in downtown Sunnyvale, these challenges were elevated by providing housing for individuals with developmental disabilities and enhancing the pedestrian experience in its vibrant community.  

To ensure the success of this 1.4-acre development, the project required a branding partner with the expertise to address these complexities while delivering a solution that would resonate with stakeholders and create lasting value.  

Argus’ Solution  

Argus applied its expertise in development branding for the project, offering a collaborative, data-driven approach that ensured every element of the branding reflected the developer’s goals, community expectations, and the needs of future residents.  

  1. Establishing a Unique Identity

   Argus developed the Meridian brand name, identity, wayfinding, and displays to highlight the property as a dignified, inclusive housing community. By emphasizing warmth, connection, and modern design, the branding positioned Meridian as a valued addition to Sunnyvale, resonating with both residents and the surrounding community.  

  1. Collaborating with Stakeholders 

   From the start, Argus worked closely with Related California, the project architect, Steinberg Hart, and community stakeholders to ensure the branding aligned with the development’s goals and the city’s broader vision encapsulated in the Sunnyvale Downtown Specific Plan. This collaboration extended to wayfinding and signage design, where Argus incorporated insights from community input and owner objectives to create a system that guided residents and visitors comfortably through the space and reinforcing a sense of place.  

  1. Designing for Long-Term Flexibility

   The branding system was crafted with the future in mind, offering a scalable and adaptable framework to accommodate updates, expansions, or changes over time. This forward-thinking approach ensures that the property remains relevant and visually cohesive as it evolves with the community.

Through Argus’ strategic branding, Meridian was transformed into more than just a housing development—it became a place of belonging and pride. The branding reflects three core values:
