Marea Alta, developed by BRIDGE Housing, is located on a former BART parking lot adjacent to the San Leandro BART Station. Marea Alta includes 115 rental apartments, as well as more than 240 below-grade parking spaces for BART patrons. Marea Alta was constructed with an innovative design-build modular process to increase project efficiencies.
Through our first phase of research, we found that this area had a strong history of business, and was an industrial and framing center on the West Coast. The San Leandro Creek and Marina influenced a water theme and the idea of bringing new life to the former parking lot. We created the name, Marea Alta, which means rising tide — “A rising tide raises all boats.”
The Spanish Mediterranean design of the building, tiles and color scheme informed the logo, signage and artwork. We designed the exterior identity logo out of wrought iron to support the Spanish Mediterranean style.
